Botox
What is Botox?
Botox injections contain the purified protein Botulinum Toxin A which causes muscles to relax, thereby smoothing out lines and wrinkles. Sometimes we can help the wrinkles disappear altogether!
Botox helps to achieve a fresher, more youthful appearance.
Are Botox injections safe?
Botox has been used since the 1980’s to treat a variety of medical conditions and has an excellent safety record. We will inject a very small amount of Botox into specific areas and therefore the risk is minimal.
How does Botox work?
Botox is used to prevent or soften dynamic wrinkles by blocking the nerve impulses to the muscles preventing them from contracting/moving. Dynamic wrinkles are produced when we use our muscles to produce facial expressions such as frowning, raising our eyebrows and smiling. When the muscles contract, they cause the overlying skin to wrinkle. By preventing the muscles from moving, we can create a smoother, softer appearance for the patient. Botox can also be used to prevent further lines and wrinkles from forming.
Will Botox injections remove all my wrinkles?
Deeper lines which have been there for a long time may not disappear altogether. Dermal fillers may also need to be used after Botox treatment to help reduce these lines.
How long does the effect of Botox last?
It can take up to 14 days for the full effects of Botox to be seen. For the majority of people, the results will last between 3-6 months with most people reporting that results last longer following several treatments. The final result will be very natural and not mask like. If you stop getting Botox injections, your lines and wrinkles will return to how they were before.
How long does Botox treatment take and what does it involve?
We will take a full medical history along with some photos. Your skin will be cleansed gently and we do ask you to wear minimal makeup on the day of treatment as we will have to remove it. Treatment involves a series of very tiny injections into specific muscles. No local anaesthetic is needed and there is no downtime; you can go on with your normal activities straight away but we do advise against touching or rubbing the treated area for several hours.
What areas can Botox treat?
- Frown lines (vertical lines between the eyebrows)
- Forehead lines (horizontal lines across the forehead)
- Crow’s feet (otherwise known as laughter lines at the corners of the eyes)
- Lines around the lip (smoker’s lines)
- Smooth the jawline by reducing the size of the masseter muscles.
*Static lines due to skin thinning cannot be treated by Botox.
What are the side effects with Botox injections?
Although this is a safe and effective treatment, side effects can occur but are not permanent. The main side effect is bruising, swelling or redness at the site of injection. Please avoid taking anti-inflammatories such as Ibuprofen or Aspirin 48 hours before treatment.
Other side effects are itching, double vision, drooping eyelid and headache, all of which are temporary.
We use Botox® as our product of choice.
Prices start from £160. Men incur a surcharge as they require more treatment.
